Unfinished

UnfinishedUnfinished – Believing Is Only the Beginning

About the book

What do you do after you believe?

Imagine the shock felt by Jesus’ disciples. They had witnessed the unprecedented drama of the Incarnation of God in the person of Jesus, his remarkable miracles, his brutal death and then—beyond all belief—his stunning resurrection from the dead. Their leader and Messiah was alive again and would lead them to redeem his people. But then, as suddenly as he had appeared, Jesus just left. It was over. Or was it?

Before Jesus left he entrusted his disciples—and us—with a critical mission: to launch a spiritual and social revolution that would turn the world upside down. We were to go to the far corners of the earth to proclaim the gospel and demonstrate the love of God to a hurting and hostile world. Jesus called this mission "the advance of the kingdom of God," and when the job was done, he promised to return.

But two thousand years later the mission remains unfinished. This book is an invitation to discover the life that God created you to live. It’s not about failure and guilt but more about opportunities and joy, because God doesn’t coerce us—he invites us. He offers meaning, fulfillment, and significance in our lives but always gives us the option to decline, and sadly, many do.

It is time to rediscover our calling. It is time to relaunch.

My Thoughts

I didn’t hesitate one minute when I saw this title available in the Book Sneeze website.   I knew that it would be a 2x4 behind the head when I read it.  And trust me – it is….   I have read The Hole In Our Gospel a couple of years ago and was touched by Stearns writing back then.   I was prepared to be touched again on a deeper level.

This book will open your eyes on the fact that believing is not enough – we need to act on Jesus’ word in order to do what he asked us to do.   Our job is not only to believe in Him but to make disciples.   I like the way the author writes about the type of people who becomes followers – deciders.  But to become a discipler you need to become involved and trust in the Lord to bring your opportunities.  You need to be bold to share without worrying about what others will think of you.   I will admit I am not there yet.    I should pray more for  my mom and my neighbours.  But I feel discouraged because of their reactions on church or my belief.  That’s why this book was a 2x4 for me.   It encourages me not to be discouraged, to trust God for the result and to become more bold in my faith.

The book also contain a study section that people can use for a book study, for a reading club or to simply learn more about how to apply in their life.   Also, you will find a special chapter at the end, that will provide guidance in how to become a discipler in your own church and environment.   I personally discover things that I could do to change my own actions in my neighborhood.

If there was one book you would want to read this year in order to transform you with a servant heart, I would like to suggest that you read Unfinished by Richard Stearns.   I find it’s a marvelous book that will open your eyes to the what Christ expects us to do with our lives.

Please take a moment to watch this video which present the idea behind the book.
