About the book

From the first release of Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977 to the 2009 second season of The Clone Wars, Star Wars Year By Year: A Visual Chronicle is an unparalleled chronological journey through the making of the most epic science fiction series ever! Featuring incredible illustrations and stills, the book chronologically details the history and development of the Star Wars movies; the events, press, and logistics surrounding the making of each movie; and exclusive interviews with people who worked behind the scenes. The year-by-year format includes images from the movies, TV series, comic books, video games, and novels as well as movie posters, memorabilia, book covers, and more.

My Thoughts

I’ve always wanted to get this book for the little fans I have in my home.  Not only will this be very informative for their Star Wars knowledge but mom and dad will be able to see the behind the scenes of the Star Wars universe.  When the first movie came out back in the 70s we were just children ourselves but we both love it and are more than happy to introduce our kids to these characters and the story – the original way obviously!   And now to think that more movies will be made for Star Wars in the years to come, I am very excited to see what will be the storyline of these.

The book is packed with illustrations, images, photos, as well as information about the Star Wars phenomena.    The first section you will encounter in the book is life before Star Wars – because believe it or not there were influences that motivated George Lucas to create the series.    So in a few pages you will see what the 60s and the 70s brought for Lucas to come up with this beloved series.

Then the book will present the original series mostly known as Episode IV, V and VI.   The book will provide detailed information of the creation of these three movies through the years 1973-1983.    This section is then followed by the “Between the Trilogies” and covers the years 1984 to 1996.   What happened during those years, what influence did Star Wars had on the culture and how did the fans were able to enjoy more Star Wars in their life?   These are the things you will discover while flipping through the pages of this section.    The years 1997 to 2005, brought us a delightful surprise when Lucas released what he calls The Prequel Trilogy.  This section will transport you to where the new movies were filmed, the publications that were published, the main movies released through the years and much more.

Finally, the book concludes while covering the years 2006-2012 and the Clones Wars.   Though my kids have seen the movies – originals and prequels – they are more familiar with the Clone Wars at this point in time with the toys and episodes on television.   But I suspect that they will be very eager to go see the new movies when they come out  with the first one Episode VII schedule to come out in 2015.  Apparently, there will be also two stand alone movies featuring Han Solo and Boba Fett.   So we are waiting patiently for the sequel movies to come out.

The book also contains two collectible prints of Star Wars.   However, I am unsure if all the copies of this title contains the same prints or not.

As I discover this book – and let me tell you there is a lot to read and explore in it – I can’t help but remember the small movie a fan made titled “George Lucas in Love”.  If you haven’t seen this I highly recommend it as it is quite funny.

In conclusion, if you kids are highly interested in everything that is Star Wars related, I highly recommend this book.  It will provide plenty of reading material for the summer months to come.
