About the book

Hello, you . . . The one looking for more purpose and listening for God’s plan. Here’s what that restlessness is really all about: there’s a God-sized dream knocking on the door of your heart. Before you think that sounds too big, let me assure you, God-sized dreams aren’t really about size at all. They’re about the desires God places within you that perfectly fit your heart. God-sized dreams are an essential part of who you’re created to be and what you’re called to do. They lead to more meaning, joy, and connection with the One who gave them to you. In the busyness of life, it’s easy to ignore them or let fear shut them out. But this is your moment. Now is your time. The “more” your heart is longing for has been there all along. Let’s open the door to all God has for you together.

With this life-changing message, Holley Gerth invites you to discover the dreams God has given you-and then dare to pursue them. She takes you by the heart and says, “Yes! You can do this!” and guides you forward with a loving hand. Along the way, she provides insightful questions and offers action plans that will help you take the next steps toward making the deepest desires of your heart a reality.

My Thoughts

Last year, I had the opportunity to review a previous title from Holley Gerth – You’re Already Amazing – which I absolutely adored.   So when I got offered You’re Made for a God-Sized Dream, I expected to be swept off the ground with what I read.   Not so.   Don’t take me wrong, I am sure the book could be fabulous for someone wondering what they can do in life.  But for me at this point in time where I believe that I am doing what I was called to do – homeschooling my kids and being involved in a healing ministry – the book is a little bit redundant.

The author is helping people to discover their strengths and will guide the reader in discovering what they are passionate about.   You will find places to jolt down answers to questions and reflections in order to help you find the God-Sized Dream of yours. You will be encourage to fulfill this dream and go deeper in a special guide that you can download from her website.

As I was reading the first chapter, I had trouble with a specific section in it.

The people in your life may not always like that you’re following your dream.  They may even whine about it from time to time.   But not pleasing people isn’t the same as being selfish.  You don’t have to make everyone in your life happy – the only thing you must do is be obedient.

My problem with these lines is that the author doesn’t cover the situation of marriage.  What if following your dream cause a stain in your relationship with the man you are married?  To the point that it can cause separation or divorce…   Sometimes your spouse might not be at the same level as you for this kind of things – especially i f it’s a huge dream of yours.   I would say that you need to talk about it with your spouse and decide together how to go ahead with it.   Communications is very important between spouses.

Mind you not all dreams are extreme so I am certain that most situations won’t cause marital problems.   And the book is a good guide to help you discover where you could flourish.    I would encourage young women who don’t know what to do in life to check out this book.   It could be also useful for older women who feels as though they don’t have purpose in life.   But beware that it’s not just a book that you read, you will have “homework” to do in it in order to discover your calling.
