MonKi See

As a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew, I have received an interesting DVD and a book from Monki See.   I had the opportunity to review a DVD and a book from Monki See.BFW-dec10-450x389b

Geared for kids from birth to age 3, the Monki See Baby’s First Words will expose your child to familiar words.    From body parts to well known words in the younger ages, the word are presented with the help of puppets, animals, chidren as well as Howie and Skip the two animated monkeys of the series.   This DVD will enhanced the vocabulary of your child and will help him/her to learn the written language of 40 words.   In all, your child will be entertained during the 30 minutes of the DVD.   Also included on the DVD is a 40 word slide show to revise the words learned.   You will also find a parent guide included to help you get started.

The book titled Know Your Monkey is a short, rhyming story that goes with the DVD and will teach the young children to identify body parts on their favorite monkeys while learning about their own bodies.  While going through this book, you can ask your child to identify the body parts on his own body at the same time.   It is a great way to get him/her interact during the reading of the story.   'See and Say Stories' are specifically arranged to display large text while keeping the illustrations separate in order to naturally direct the child’s attention to the written word.   This cute little book will revise about 29 words from the video.

My daughter, Jasmine, is above this level of learning.   She enjoyed the DVD but to be honest she already knew her body part.   But the originality of presenting the information as well as the use of children and puppets grabbed her attention.     I think that the DVD is well done and help the child to interact during the learning time.    Nothing can stop you to ask your child to identify his own body part while watching it.

It was recommended that the child watch the video once a day for a period of time.   To be honest, I don’t particularly like this option since I try to limit the television viewing as much as I can.    But we watched it a few times and Jasmine enjoyed it.   However, being in a homeschool environment, I find that she wants to work from a book as well when we have school time.

Other DVDs alvailable are All About Colors and All About Shapes.

The products are on sale right now with the DVD being priced at $19.95 and the book at  9.95$.
