My Husband’s Thoughts

Notice this section is all about my husband’s thoughts about the book.  Why?  Simply because he is the fisherman in the family and introduced all of us to it.    I never had gone fishing before my husband brought me…    I didn’t think I would enjoy it.   He kept telling me:   “I just know you… You will love it!   All the nature that you can see while fishing is simply amazing.”   He knew me right…  I do enjoy it.  What I don’t enjoy though is the hooking the worm on it or removing the fish that I caught.   I guess he still have some work to do on me for these…

Needless to say, I wanted to surprise him with this book because I thought it would be a great book for him to read this summer.   He was pleased but here are is comments:

The book is interesting but I find it doesn’t gives detailed information in it.   I would say it is more for debutant fishermen.   I don’t see all the species we catch in Logos Land in there.   I feel it is like an overview of the world of fishing.   It will be good for the boys to go through it when they are older.   I would have preferred having more information about Ontario for sure.

The book has four major sections:

  1. Fishing Basics which contains the history of fishing, how to get started, what you need in your fishing tackle and essential skills
  2. Fishing Strategies which gives you guidance for fishing in freshwater, saltwater, and fly-fishing.
  3. Fish Species which presents some of the most popular species in freshwater and saltwater.
  4. World of Fishing where you can get  a one page fishing information of various parts around the world – including Ontario! (to be honest I am surprised not to see Quebec there too!)

The book also has a multitude of pictures demonstrating techniques, showing the type of fishes you can catch and showing environments.    You will also find illustration showing fishing strategies in various environments.     In the World of Fishing section you will get essential information like climate to expect, when to fish, key species you will find in a particular place, the hot spots as well as things that you shouldn’t forget.   Pictures showing places from all over the world are also included.

To be honest, I didn’t know that there was so many different techniques in catching fishes.   I think I will read more on the pike and bass so I can be more independent in catching these species this summer.    We don’t fish in saltwater or do any fly-fishing so these sections won’t be useful for us.   But if you know someone who wants to learn more about any type of fishing, I suggest that you consider The Complete Fishing Manual.

The Complete Fishing Manual is available at your favorite bookstore, even amazon.ca.
